The Dangers Of Smoking Tobacco Smoking - 1547 Words

DISCUSSION Since you cannot tackle what you are unaware of, the first step in decreasing tobacco smoking is to identify who the smokers are. These could be potential or current users of tobacco and tobacco products or people who are affected by environmental smoke also known as secondhand smoke. Health care providers cannot stop or reduce usage in a patient if they do not know whether the patient is a beginner or a current user. In the health care system, the family physicians are usually the primary contact point. During the process of screening, they are able to identify patients who use tobacco and other tobacco-related products, and those who have substance use disorder. They, therefore, connect them to appropriate personnel and facilities for continued treatment. Screening does not only involve patients who are active or potential smokers. Children are also screened to find out if they are in any way exposed to second-hand smoke from parents and caregivers, in which case, efforts are made to protect the children and encourage the parents to follow cessation measures. Reducing the prevalence of adolescent tobacco use may be as simple as screening or rendering brief counseling during an office visit (Stein et al., 2000). Each office visit serves as a great opportunity for the provider to offer screening services since they have frequent contact with the patients and are able to interact with, and guide them. The Long Term Economic Growth - 1290 Words

As a product of colonization, the limited industrial development in the colonized area is a global issue. Because the widening gap between the rich and the poor between developing and developed countries, is the root reason of most of the contradictions and conflicts between countries in the contemporary world. And different level of industrialization caused the widening gap. So we can say the limited industrial development caused by colonialism is a real issue behind many current contradictions and conflicts. In order to reduce these conflicts and narrow the gap, the colonized countries should make a breakthrough on its limited industrialization by focusing on its own features-- resources and structures, and taking effective measures-- impoting foreign capital and technology and establishing independent or joint scientific research and ventures, to gain a long-term economic growth. For the relation between the colonization and the limited industrialization in colony, there are usu ally two views. One view is that people blame the colonizer were not willing to promote the development of industry in the colony. The other view is that people emphasize it was hard for the colonized to start the process of industrialization in the colony. International Of Business And Information -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The International Of Business And Information? Answer: Introducation The basic principle of interpersonal communication is about listening other peoples point of view and to express my operations on the subject clearly. I have used interpersonal skills and communication skills during the group discussion which was held in my college. I have used my communication ability to define the topic which was given in the group discussion (Aesaert et al., 2014). It is an important thing to listen carefully as it helps a lot to speak among the other members by understanding their point of view and requirements. I am satisfied with the experiences which I have learnt through the communication program. Teamwork skills Reading skill is the most primary way to acquire knowledge. I have applied my reading skill in gaining knowledge for the academic documentation. For an example to write an academic document I have collected several data related to the subject and also I have collected different ideas on that topic (Hashim, 2015). I have collected all these information by reading several articles, books and internet sources. Communication language Team work is an important part of making any project and presentation and the main advantage of making any presentation through a team work is that several types of ideas and opinions are collected in a single platform to get the compact presentation (Seena Pillai, 2014). I have also made a presentation with my team on a topic in my college. I have first defined the issues then in the presentation I have defined the solutions of the corresponding issues. My team members helped me a lot by providing several opinions. Creation and delivery of effective oral presentation I have created a presentation which assessed the concepts related to the behaviour, management, privacy and legal aspects which are important parameters in case of an ICT domain. Ethics and law are the parameters which create the righteousness in the employees of the ICT organisation. These generate the responsibility and the code of conduct among the employees. Privacy is also important from the security point of view. The social aspects should also be taken care of as this keeps the hood environment in the ICT domain for the employees. I have implemented all these concepts in my assessment for the ICT domain. Importance of ethics codes of behaviours and societal, privacy and legal issues within the ICT I always believed that the most important thing in communication is to understand the individuals or peoples requirement and thinking. I have also learnt a lot by communicating with students of different universities and the staffs of ICT domain. The communication develops when we work together with the community and the students who are actually working with the people of community. Understanding of the common work practices The organisational process in ICT is important for the better production of the system. I have used my communication skill for acquiring knowledge and data for the better completion of the ICT processes (Button, Harrington, Belan, 2014). I have understood first about the issues which are mainly defined in the ICT domain. Then I have tried to get the solutions by reading and listening and this helped me a lot understand the ICT projects. Use of ICT in improvement of organisational processes ICT can be successfully implemented in the advancement of the organisational processes. Information and communication technology is applicable for the advancement of the organisations growth and it can also help in more advanced communication and keep people in touch in case of long distances. Evaluation of applications and emerging technologies to communicate and collaborate There are different types of communication and collaboration technologies which are also important in terms of completing the unit. One important technology is the Web 2.0 which is used for the digital literacy for better understanding related to the ICT environment (Siddiq, Scherer Tondeur, 2016). I have also used this Web 2.0 technology for communicating with the people and it helped me a lot also. It actually helps to create and share some content with simple graphic and interface. Another important technology is the mobile technology for showing several real time video and assessment for the employees in the ICT organisation through virtual platform. I have also used mobile technology for the better understanding of the subjects which are also important for better communication through this way. The most interesting thing of the communication technologies is that it makes the whole system easier to understand and to make people understand about several ICT technologies. It also helped me a lot in communicating with other people and to increase ethics and communication skills among the employees in the ICT domain. The interface is one of the things which can be more advanced in order to make people more interested and comfortable in communicating among them and to lkearn about new ICT technologies. The thing is to make the system more advanced by making the system more popular among people. That will only be possible when the technologies related o the communication will be more available to them. References Aesaert, K., Van Nijlen, D., Vanderlinde, R., van Braak, J. (2014). Trojan Women Essay Example

Trojan Women Essay The Trojan Women is a Greek tragedy by Euripides. He explores the hardships faced by the women of Troy after their land had been destroyed by the loss of the Trojan War. In the play, the women were faced with various difficulties. They were not only meant to deal with the horrors of the war like the death of their loved ones and their city in ruins but were also faced with the terror of what their future will hold. They yearn for revenge and the hope that life will recover in the future. Awoken after the city is in ruins, the Trojan women gather together amongst Hachure, the former queen f Troy as they wail the loss of their husbands and seek to find what theyre future may hold. However, the horrors of the war did not Just end with death. Hectares daughter Cassandra was raped in the temple of Athena by Alas the Less and the Greeks not only did nothing to stop him from this injustice, he was also never questioned his actions. Another saddening aspect of the war was the commandment of Assistant, the young son of Andromeda and the brave Hector to death by being thrust off the walls of Troy. It was heartbreaking to find his corpse brought back to Hachure towards the end of the play when his wounds were wrapped and he was buried. The future brought the most dreadful situations for the women. Taillights, the messenger, brought news on what was to come. The women would all be separated and enslaved by various Greeks. Hachure worried about how her old age would support her doing household chores. Once a queen, she is now a servant to Odysseus, King of Ithaca. On enquiring about ere daughters she finds that Cassandra, who is already traumatized, had been personally chosen by King Agamemnon to be his lover. This shocked her mother as her daughter has taken a sacred oath of virginity. I as a reader further noted the unbearable feeling the women may have felt when Cassandra broke out with torches thanking Hymen, the god of marriage for giving her the opportunity to slay Agamemnon. Taillights informs Hachure that Andromeda belongs to the son of Achilles whereas Polygene will he located beside the tomb of Achilles. Assistant, as mentioned earlier will be condemned to death. The tone of the entire play was filled with sorrow as the women constantly moan with sadness of the various aspects of the play that had happened or were to happen in the future. They all know that they will be carried off by ship too strange land with no care or comfort. The idea of revenge was another component that I found conspicuous in the play. Many characters seek revenge in the play. Firstly, Athena speaks to Poseidon about how Alas the Less raped Cassandra in her temple when she came to seek shelter. She asks Poseidon to help her saying that she had already spoken to Zeus, the king of the gods who will release hail among the ships and provide Athena with lighting bolts. Poseidon had been given the power to create whirlpools and they both go off to prepare to attack the ships. Another person seeking revenge is Menelaus who plans to kill Helen for abandoning Greece and running off with Paris. Even though she tries to charm her way out of it, convincing him that she is the savior of Greece, Hachure contradicts her theory keeping Menelaus on track to killing her. The women detest Cassandra also seeks revenge as she plans to slay Agamemnon for the sake of her lost father. The readers may feel sad for the various events happened but this need for revenge amongst the various characters conveys that they not only feel depressed but also face heights of anger for everything that has been brought to them due to the war. The aspect of the book that I was personally shocked by was the exploration of hope. On reporting the death of Polygene to Hachure, Andromeda mentions that she is better off dead. However, Hachure mentions that only on living do we find the pope for a better tomorrow. This idea was one of the most captivating in the book because even as Hachure has lost everything she ever had she still hopes that things will get better. It is also ironic that Andromeda has the idea of death being better off right before she finds out about the death of her son to come and the question remains if she would still feel that way about his death. My favorite scene was also the most hear-breaking, when Andromeda finds that her child was to be taken from her and killed. This separation of a mother and a child who was the hope of a better true for Troy was saddening especially when his dead body was returned to her. She speaks to her son telling him to hold on to her, hug her and kiss her. This shows how much it breaks her to leave her son and guilt of how she is letting this happen. It also shows how much she is going to miss him. I find that Euripides has successfully conveyed the various hardships of the women of Troy by exploring ideas of death, dread to find what the future holds, revenge and hope. Many of the ideas explored were heart-breaking and makes us as an audience sympathize with these women for hat they have been put through. It had proven that there is more than what meets the eye in an event of war and has given me an emotional perspective of a war rather than simply focusing on the destruction and death. This play has also given me an insight into Greek theatre. As a theatre student I now have an understanding on the ancient Greek style of writing. The language used was rich and I was unable to understand many of the characters without researching their mythological background. I even had to research the Trojan War and the author to understand what the story was about. This research of the terms in the book led me to many other findings of Greek theatre that I find rather interesting. Not only do I find the work of Euripides fascinating, I also learnt about the ancient festival of Dionysian which took place in an open air stone structure with tiered seating. They were also one of the first to make use of masks. Greek mythology and theatre seem to be a world of its own and I was glad to embark on this unit of my individual study learning about Greek tragedies, mythologies, works and writers and how it pushes me further into the even bigger world of acting.

Consumer Councils in India Essays Consumer Councils in India Essay Consumer Councils in India Essay Hence, because of all this, safeguarding consumer interests is a very important process for the government. Owing to all these, consumers consideration and protection has been taken care of since ancient times. During recent times, or contemporary times in India, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is one of the most important things to have happened as it introduced a quasi-Judicial consumer dispute redressed mechanism for the first time which consists of Central Consumer Councils, State Consumer Council and District Consumer Council. Now in this research paper the researchers are going to deal with these consumer councils and how they deal with furthering and safeguarding the consumer interests in India. For this reason, various cases which the Councils have discussed has been put into this research paper to UT forth how the consumer interests are being taken care of. This research paper moves on after discussing about Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and the various councils set up under it. It also talks about consumer dispute redressed agencies set up under this act. Overall, there have been many other consumer protection laws, but they have all taken a backseat once the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 came upfront and this research paper mainly deals with the same. It has coastlines along the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf and it shares borders with Saudi Arabia and Oman. It is also located near the country of Qatar. United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation that was originally formed in 1971. The country is known as being one of the wealthiest and most developed in western Asia. Formation of United Arab Emirates According to the United States Department of State, UAE was originally formed by a group of organized sheikhdoms that lived on the Arabian Peninsula along the coasts of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. These sheikdoms were known to have constantly been in dispute with one another and as a result, constant raids on ships the area was called the Pirate Coast by traders in the 17th and early 19th centuries. In 1820, a peace treaty was signed by the areas sheikhs in order to protect shipping interests along the coast. Raiding of ships continued until 1835 however, and in 1853 a treaty was signed between the sheikhs (Trucial Sheikhdoms) and the United Kingdom which established a perpetual maritime truce (US Department of State). In 1892 the U.K. and the Trucial Sheikhdoms signed another treaty that forged a closer relationship between Europe and the present-day UAE region. In the treaty, the Trucial Sheikhdoms agreed not to give away any of their land unless it went to the U.K. and i t established that the sheikhs would not begin new relationships with other foreign nations without first discussing it with the U.K. The U.K. then promised to provide military support to the sheikhdoms if needed.Throughout the mid 20th-century, there were several border disputes between the UAE and neighboring countries. In addition in 1968, the U.K. decided to end the treaty with the Trucial Sheikhdoms. As a result, the Trucial Sheikhdoms, along with Bahrain and Qatar (which were also being protected by the U.K.), tried to form a union. However they were unable to agree with each other so in the summer of 1971, Bahrain and Qatar became independent nations. On December 1 of the same year, the Trucial Sheikhdoms became independent when the treaty with the U.K. expired. On December 2, 1971, six of the former Trucial Sheikhdoms formed the United Arab Emirates. In 1972, Ras al-Khaimah became the seventh to join. Government of United Arab Emirates Today the UAE is considered a federation of seven emirates. The country has a federal president and prime minister which makes up its executive branch but each emirate also has a separate ruler (called an emir) who controls the local government. The UAEs legislative branch is made up of a unicameral Federal National Council and its judicial branch is made up of the Union Supreme Court. The seven emirates of the UAE are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Al Fujayrah, Ash Shariqah, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah and Umm al Qaywayn. Economics and Land Use in United Arab Emirates The UAE is considered one of the wealthiest nations in the world and it has a high per capita income. Agriculture is also important to the country and the main products produced are dates, various vegetables, watermelon, poultry, eggs, dairy products,  and fish. How Hersheys company emerged to a multibillion-dollar organization - Research Paper Example This research will begin with the statement that Hershey Company that was known as the Hershey Foods Corporation until April 2005 and is commonly known as Hershey’s now is the largest manufacturer of chocolate operating from North America.   It is headquartered in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It was founded by Mr. Milton S. Hershey in the year 1894 and was named the Hershey Chocolate Company that was also a subsidiary unit of the Lancaster Caramel Company. It is especially known for its milk bar chocolates, chocolate bars, candies and baking products. Apart from its chocolate products, the company is also well known for its philanthropic activities. The internal analysis of a company provides information about its core competencies, as well as functional analysis; in order to establish the firm’s core competencies, Porter’s value chain model can be used.   Core Competencies and Unique Resources - The core competencies should possess four traits. They should be valu able to the customer, the competencies need to be unique, the competencies should be durable and difficult to imitate and the competencies need to be developed in a way that they cannot be substituted by any other means. The core competencies of Hershey’s lie in the fact that the company is a well-known organization in the chocolate and confectionery industry. It is hugely popular because of its chocolate bars, particularly the S'more. The second competency of Hershey is the quality of the product.... The company also takes care of its perishable products by keeping it in clod storages. The unique resources for the company range from its farmers who supply it with the raw materials to the consumers who buy its products (Hershey’s, n.d). These leverage the output and revenue of the company. 2.2 Porter's Value Chain of Hershey’s – according to Porter’s value chain model, the primary activities and the supporting activities are described as follows: Primary activities Hershey maintains a strong control over its suppliers and pioneers in its inbound logistics operations. Along with the implementation of cold storage, the company highly stresses on the application of organizational theory. Recently, it has implemented the stylized statistical technique of Six Sigma for improving its products. Six Sigma is an extravagant technology applied in manufacturing sector for identifying defects of the products and help improving the products. Sig Sigma technology red uces the error to around 3.4 defects per million. The benefits of Six Sigma for logistics operation include that of improvement in process, reduction in cost as well as increase in operational efficiency. By applying this technique, the companies can determine the root causes of problems and also find out the mechanism of process improvement. Hershey’s company in partnership with GENCO also underwent an implementation of Six Sigma to make a root cause analysis for an optimal sales level. It has implemented Six Sigma in its Lebanon manufacturing unit and planning to implement in other areas as well (Partridge, 2006). The company also provides a sound operational system by offering rigorous training to its

A simple research proposal about 'How could qualitative methods be Essay

A simple research proposal about 'How could qualitative methods be used to explore the connections between poverty and climate c - Essay Example The most common human activity contributing to climate change is the emission of greenhouse gases, especially carbon (Desonie, 2008). Greenhouse gases are emitted via the consumption of fossil fuels, deforestation and the burning of forests as a means of creating agricultural and/or ranch lands (Desonie, 2008). A review of literature suggests that some scholar believe that there is a link between poverty and climate change. For example, Dessler (2009) argued that while developed states have targeted key dates for the reduction of carbon emissions, a vast majority of developing countries have no such plans. In addition, it is argued that there is connection between poverty and environmental damages because the poor spend their time and efforts attempting to relieve hunger (Gray & Moseley, 2005). This often means overusing natural resource (Gray & Moseley, 2005). Gray and Moseley (2005) argud, however, that a link between poverty and climate change is difficult to make when one conside rs the environmental damages attributed to industries. Davy (2009) also pointed out that the middle and upper classes have far more access to land and thus natural resources, than the poor does. Studies testing or analysing the connection between poverty and climate change have produced mixed results. For example, a study conducted by Martuzzi, Mittis and Forasteire (2010) showed a link between poverty and poor waste management in the US and Europe since 1983. The study, however, was based on secondary evidence comprised of reports in the literature demonstrating that disadvantaged areas usually reflected poorer waste management than other areas (Martuzzi, et al., 2010). A study conducted by Xenopoulos, Lodge, Alcamo, Marker, Schulze, and Van Vuuren (2005) established a link between fish and river biodiversity and the poor. In this study, Xenopoulos et al. (2005) examined fish and river water loss. The results of the study indicated that fish loss is due to river water loss and this was more prevalent in poor countries where river water was a source of drinking water (Xenopoulos et al., 2005). The combination of climate change and water consumption contributed to water and fish loss in poor countries indicating that the poor, contributed to climate change. Scherr (2000) asserted that ‘recent micro-scale empirical research’ showed that poor areas are able to adapt to environmental policies, and thus there is no realistic empirical basis for claiming that there is a connection between poverty and climate change. According to Scherr (2000), marginalisation and a lack of economic resources expose the poor to environmental damages. In other words, the poor are victims of climate change as opposed to the contributor to climate change. As qualitative case study conducted by Brouwer, Akter, Brander and Hague (2007) supported this conclusion. Brouwer et al. (2007) conducted a survey on 700 low-income homes in a flood prone area of Bangladesh. The results o f the study found that the lower the income of the family, the higher the risk of flood damages. The poorer families lacked the resources to mitigate the risk of flood damages (Brouwer et al., 2007). Qualitative case studies on residents in four UK coastal communities using interviews of residents and a

Disadvantages of Nuclear Power Essay Example for Free

Disadvantages of Nuclear Power Essay High-level radioactive waste is very dangerous, and can remain so for tens of thousands of years before decaying to safe levels. It is highly radioactive and is a major barrier to the expansion of nuclear power. If there is to be a nuclear renaissance, a sophisticated method of dealing with this waste must be refined. This point itself has sparked a surprising number of debates. For example, how do you write danger on a concrete box, when in 5,000 years the word danger may no longer exist? What symbols could we use to let people know to leave it well alone? As you can see from the graph below, the radioactivity of nuclear waste takes about 10 000 years to return to that of the original ore. The black line, indicating the total waste products, is the important one. Accidents Consider the words Chernobyl, Three Mile Island or, more recently, Fukushima. What do you think when think of them? Some people were (are) so terrified of the threat of radiation and various other scary things from previous accidents that even the idea of such things happening again makes them completely averse to nuclear power as a whole. In terms of disadvantages of nuclear power, this is a big one. Whatever improvements in safety the nuclear industry has developed, public opinion may very well rest in these events. Theres no right or wrong answer here. Technically speaking, nuclear power remains one of the safer energy sources, but Fukushima has reminded the world what can happen when something goes wrong. Proliferation Some forms of nuclear reactor, known as breeder reactors produce plutonium, which can, conceivably, be used to make nuclear weapons, most likely in the orm of a dirty bomb. This is a conventional explosive mixed with radioactive material with the intention of spreading the material across a wide area to do even more damage. There are other reactors which do not have this problem, but it is another issue that must be addressed before the possibility of a nuclear future can be taken seriously. In fact, there are reactor designs, and fuels for them, which would also significantly reduce the amount of waste produced. Fuel Nuclear fuels are, physically, even rarer than fossil fuels. Fossil fuels at least are made on Earth, albeit over millions of years. Heavy elements like Uranium are only made as stars die, in supernovas. Our solar system actually formed from the remains of another star, at which point heavier elements were made. Essentially, once theyre gone, theyre gone. Only in particle accelerators can heavier elements be made.

Skecthing Gustave Calliebotte’s Paris Street; Rainy Day Essay -- Infor

Skecthing Gustave Calliebotte’s Paris Street; Rainy Day I can smell the rain on my jacket as my fingers numbly make their way across the pad, trying their best to capture an instant in time on a piece of yellow, college-ruled, notebook paper, despite my now apparent lack of artistic ability. As I am watching the scene unfold, I hardly notice the people walking around me, gazing at the same thing I am, before they move on. Cuddling under an umbrella, a man and his wife are casually strolling through the light fog. Their attention is caught by something off to their right, so he does not notice when his top hat is almost bumped to one side by the umbrella as another pedestrian tries to pass on the narrow sidewalk. Further off in the distance, several other sets of people can be seen composedly walking through the gentle mist of rain. It seems as though they are not even aware of the weather as they make their way from shop to shop, content on this comfortable evening. To my left, a couple of gentlemen are discussing their affairs as they mo ve past a horse-drawn carriage. The pudd...

Can international law change the world Essay

Sir Christopher John Greenwood was born in 1955. Currently he is a judge of the ICC whereby he was elected to the position on 6th November 2008. Before being elected as an ICC judge, Sir Christopher John Greenwood was a professor at London School of Economics where by taught international law. In addition, he was a barrister who most often made appearance before the international court of justice, the English Courts and the European Court Of Human Rights among other tribunals. During an interview as evidenced in the video, Judge Sir Christopher John Greenwood puts it clear that the international law has the power to change the way world operates. He further argues that, while each system of the national law strives to regulate affairs within only a single society, the international law has the concern of the whole world. In contrary, judge Sir Christopher John Greenwood argues that, though the international laws has the power to change the world and the way different systems of the world operate, there is yet no methods of enforcement available to the national legal systems. According to Sir Christopher, the international law can change the security and political stability of the different nations of the globe if only there could be efficient and effective measures put in place that would ensure the different national systems comply. Moreover, Sir Christopher says that if the different national systems could comply with international laws like those concerning weapons and international peace, international health like those stipulated in the world health organization (WHO) among other laws made to ensure that the social welfare of the different socio-economic classes of people would change the world to a greater extend. In addition to this, Sir Christopher further argues that following compliance to the different international economic laws would change the way business is carried globally by different nations. Compliance to the international laws would make the transactions between different nations secure since are governed. Moreover, international economic laws would standardize how business is carried in the world. In a broad spectrum, the international laws can only change the world if the different nation systems comply. It will be of great importance if the different world systems comply to the international laws for better so as to steer development through trade standardization among other things. Comp 2 Argumentive Essay

Argument Essay To be able to complete a family most couples have children after marriage. I believe that a child should complete a parent’s life. On the other hand I don’t believe that it is biblically right for homosexual couples to be able to adopt a child and raise that child. In the bible God created man and woman for a purpose. This purpose was to be able to reproduce the population and for one man to be in love and with one woman. I do not believe that in a homosexuality house hold that a child would be raised properly and normally like most children are able to be raised.I feel putting children in that environment is suggesting that homosexuality is okay and it truly isn’t when in terms of the bible. This sin was so important to God that he directly approached the subject in the bible saying it is a sin and that a man should be with a woman and a woman should be with a man. Being a huge supporter of the Christian faith because I am apart of that faith, I b elieve that being a homosexual is dishonorable and truly upsets God.On the other hand I am aware that not every heterosexual home in the world is a stable and a suitable home to raise a child in. In many homes in this world there are children that are beaten, raped, hungry, and also very poorly supported. In those terms and in those cases I do believe that it may be acceptable for a child that are in those conditions to be placed in a home where they will be loved and supported and be loved. I do also agree that a homosexual couple is very capable of loving and providing and taking care of a child. If the child is being beaten and unloved and raped and other extreme conditions I would be supportive and feel that it was okay for a child to be adopted into a homosexual home. I also feel that it is hard for the children that are being adopted to be able to accept what is going on and being able to know what is natural and taboo. Same-sex couples raising children must stand ready to prov e to the world they are a family, just one that happens to have two mothers or two fathers. For example I would like to share this one homosexual couple’s tory. This constant burden of proof is especially difficult for families like the Muzingos, who live in a state that doesn’t allow them to establish legal ties to each other. Michelle Muzingo was in the delivery room when her wife, Katrina, gave birth to each of their three children, who are now 7, 4 and 1. She cut their umbilical cords and was the first to hold the children, who call her â€Å"mommy. † Yet because they live in Ohio, a state that does not allow gay couples to adopt, she is unable to make that title official. We are always scanning the circle around us to see what we need to put in place to protect ourselves,† said Katrina, 37. A report released earlier this week illustrates just how vulnerable these couples and their children are, both legally and financially. After all, 30 states do not have laws that allow same-sex parents to either adopt, while six states restrict them or impose outright bans. Even families who live in states that recognize their relationships can run into trouble if they travel or move. And if something were to happen to a parent who was unable to adopt or otherwise establish legal ties, the child might be denied certain federal benefits something that children of most heterosexual parents receive automatically. When having a child normally, with one man getting one woman that is married pregnant, it can be an extremely rocky road. Also I believe that not every home is perfect and there are many problems within each family. But I just think that too many complications can come from homosexual couples adopting a child.

But I Dont Have Clips

But I Dont Have Clips When pitching to freelance markets, you feel the need to demonstrate your prowess. After all, your query is a resume of sorts, with you proving to the other side that you have what it takes to write for them. But what if you have not published yet? My best suggestion for this dilemma is to write for trade magazines to collect those first clips. Why? Because they are more interested in you being an expert in a subject than being a writer. My first clips came about not because I was a writer, but because of my experiences and educational background. You have that same opportunity. My very first clip was an essay in an anthology about my Christmas divorce. I never stated I could write or that Id never published before. I just wrote well and submitted. While it wasnt a trade, it was a clip. I could call myself a writer. Not long after, I pitched to a landscape management magazine, a trade. My degree is in agronomy, so when a landscaper came to the door of my newly constructed home, asking if he could give me an estimate for some work, I said sure. Unfortunately, he started talking to me as if I barely knew what dirt was, talking in elementary terms. I let him go on and on until finally I told him about my degree and maybe he could now talk seriously about what he could offer me. That afternoon I pitched that piece and received an acceptance in thirty minutes. I had a clip. I pitched an article about grants for writers to Writers Digest. Having recently left a career with the federal government, I understood where grants were and how to apply. They not only purchased it, but reprinted it several times, paying me each time. I moved not long after and again found myself putting sod down on a new yard, only it was three acres and required an irrigation system. I pitched TURF Magazine and did a profile on the company that installed my system, offering the pictures as well. My youngest son struggled in college, making me gray-headed with worry. So I did a piece on where a college student could find moral support on a college campus for College Bound Teen. I pitched a piece to a womens business newsletter about fighting the glass ceiling and enduring an EEO case. See? Step back from your life and note your experience. Therein lies your first clip. Its easier than you think. Just never let them know youve never published before, and they can solely focus on the experience you do have.

How CoSchedule Uses Marketing Collaboration Software

How Uses Marketing Collaboration Software The content marketers at get asked a lot about how we really manage our projects and work together to create our content. So I was humbled when a guest blogger of ours recently  shared a bit about his experience working with our marketing team: The amount of preparation done for a post and the superb coordination of their team members taught us a lot on improving our own process. Meeting their high expectations are quite tough, but we are truly honored to have the opportunity to learn from among the best in the business! Since itself is a marketing collaboration software that takes the form of an editorial calendar, I guess it makes sense that youd like to know how our  process actually works. I can tell you from experience that the tool is different than normal collaboration software because its designed by marketers to help marketers do what they do better than ever. How Creates Better Content With Marketing Collaboration SoftwareAnd because of that,  we see ourselves- the marketing team here at - as role models for the planning and process behind successful content marketing and social media. So I thought youd find it  interesting to get a behind-the-scenes peek into how we  exactly: Plan less content  that creates bigger results. Use our own tool to collaborate  super efficiently. Developed a process  that  helped us generate 852,506 page views and 7,375 email subscribers just last month. Sound like fun? Judging by the  cheers Im hearing in my head,  I thought so. :) 1. Start By Scheduling A Content  Planning Meeting Even for a tech company, its nice to get together as a team to collaborate on solving a problem in person. For us, this is one of the best ways for the entire team to  come up with creative ideas that will help us reach our 10x growth goals. You see, as  the content marketing lead, it would be easy for me to come up with every content marketing  idea all by myself and tell the team to execute them. But there is a lot more value when  the team develops those  ideas because they take ownership in the entire blogs success- not just their own content. Build a culture focused on growth. #blogging #teamworkAnd a  content planning meeting is a perfect setting for the kind of team collaboration that builds a culture focused on growth. Heres why: I know the kinds of content we publish that produce big results. So a content planning meeting is a way for me to teach the team about those details so they incorporate them into their own ideas and content creation. Every person on the team comes to the table with diverse backgrounds and ideas. This exercise is a great way to sift through everyones thoughts equally while evaluating  every idea according to our audiences preferences. That helps us choose to create really good content while consistently reminding our team of who our audience is and what they expect from content. Its a fun exercise that gets all of us up and away from our computer screens for a bit while connecting with each other. And when you have fun while you work, it feels less like work and more like something you love to do. This is how we do it: The 20-Minute Brainstorm Frenzy Some say theres nothing worse than group brainstorming if youre looking for innovative ideas. Then again, brainstorming by yourself will  only give you ideas limited to your own background. So the first  phase of our content planning meeting focuses first on individual contributions to eliminate groupthink. And its super easy: Give everyone on the team a stack of Post-It notes. Ask everyone to write down as many thoughts as they can without holding anything back. Set a timer for 20 minutes (I often use my phone for this). Go. At this point, its just fun to see the team writing down tons of ideas, working super fast, and wracking their brains for the ultimate best ideas. Theres usually coffee (lots of coffee), laughs, and then dead silence as  they get serious about finding better ideas that will really make a difference. The 40-Minute Grading  Process By this point, we probably have close to- if not more than- 100 or so ideas. The truth? We wouldnt publish 90% of them because theyre just not  quite right for our audience. And thats just fine because its during this grading process that the team  chooses which content  to publish and which ideas to  toss. Allow your team to choose which #contentideas to publish and which to toss. #contentmarketingHeres how we do it: Each person  posts all of their Post-It notes on a wall. Then  on a marker board next to the notes, I write 1 | 2 | 3 , which is our grading scale for the ideas. An idea is a 3 if its the best thing ever, while a 1 is not so good. To grade the ideas, I ask the team a couple simple questions: Is  this a topic our readers would be deeply interested in learning more about?  How similar is this to our other top content? An idea is a 3 if we answer  definitively, yes, this is  something our audience would find uniquely valuable that is better than anything else they could find on the Internet for this topic. An idea is a 2 if  the idea  doesnt fit the qualification of a 3. An idea is a 1 if  its not something we think our audience would look to us to publish. It could still be a good guest post idea. Then we read off each idea one by one while every  team member grades the topic from 1 to 3. From there, we simply post the ideas  below the  corresponding  numbers on the  marker board. Heres the outcome from a planning meeting with a bunch of 3 content ideas. A Mistake I Made That You Can Avoid: Until recently, Id have the team shout off their answers: Thats a 3, definitely! I agree, 3. Uh, yeah, lets go with 3 on that. I noticed that once the first person spat off their answer, the rest of the team was very likely to say the exact same answer. I found out later this happened  because of  social conformity, a psychological principle that  was discovered decades ago: So The Takeaway Is This: When you do this exercise, read off the ideas, then have each individual write down their grade of  1, 2, or 3  on a new Post-It note. Have them show their individual notes all at the same time for each idea, then categorize the idea as a collective 1, 2, or 3.After this process,  we only explore the best ideas- those graded as 3- for content  that well actually publish. 2. Add That Content To Your Editorial Calendar Where the planning meeting sets the collaborative tone, the editorial calendar in is where the software helps us actually plan and create the content as a team. The planning meeting sets the tone and the editorial calendar helps you  plan content #bloggingFirst, we vet the best ideas for keywords, further narrowing our scope of potential content we will  create. Recommended Reading:  How To Make An SEO Content Strategy That Will Improve Your #1–3 Results By 248% Then, we add the ideas  onto the calendar,  naming the blog posts by their keywords and assigning them to their author. We consistently publish two posts every week on Mondays and Wednesdays. Heres why. Once all of the new blog posts are on the calendar, its easy to see which authors might have a bit too much on their plates in a given week. From there, we simply  drag and drop blog posts around until we feel 100% satisfied that the publishing schedule is realistically doable for every person on the team. Asking a content marketer to write two robust posts for a single week isnt very realistic for us. So these posts could flip-flop to make this a doable content schedule. Then we use comments to add in any notes from the planning meeting- including the original idea- so the author has a clear idea of where  to start with a blog outline. We use comments in to communicate the main idea from the planning meeting. This way, we leave lots of creative room to use the keyword in the blog post title while still covering the original idea we thought would be successful. 3. Define Your  Content Process Our content development  process  is ever-changing, and we just gave it a major overhaul recently to: Add a couple more  tasks into our process to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Clearly define what done means for each task to keep everyone accountable for their responsibilities. Track how soon we should start working through blog posts to hit every deadline, every time. There were lots of benefits for us to get  organized in this way, so we started very simply by asking ourselves: What are all the steps we need to do to publish a blog post? We brainstormed all of the steps, then  simply put them in chronological order  the best that we could to help us know what to do from  beginning to end. One  collaboration software tool  we use all the time as a team is Evernote because no matter where anyone is- or if theyre online or offline- they have access to the information they need to do their work. And, it just so happens, Evernote integrates really nicely into . Anyway, this is what that process looked like as we worked through it in its rough format using Evernote: Heres a rough look at our first pass at the steps we needed to do to write and publish our content. From there, we had enough  information to understand which steps  we could group together into a cleaner, condensed workflow. And when we did that, it was easy to understand who on the team would be the best fit to complete those tasks according to their individual interests and skills. We refined the steps in the workflow and created notes in Evernote to define what done means for each task. The only thing left to do was to define when we should complete each  task to work far enough ahead to nail every deadline and assign it. This simple exercise  gave us exactly what we needed to build the  task template we manage using for all new blog posts we write. It gave us  a solid definition of what to do for each task. Before anyone who is accountable for a task marks it as complete in , they would first ask themselves if they truly completed the task according to the definition of done. Assign tasks and due dates to everyone on your team with task templates in . Now we know to start writing our blog posts a month before they publish to make sure we have several posts 100% ready to publish on the calendar at any time. We know content that is complete and published is white, and we can see which content is complete by not yet published because its yellow and labeled 100% ready to rock. Since weve done this, we pay more attention to the details that make a difference toward our goals, everyone understands their roles to  know  exactly  what to do, and we work more efficiently while producing better content. 4.  Create The Content According To Your Workflow Ill be the first to say that our  workflow- or the task template we built in - looked magical. If we could seriously create content that way with every task checked off on time and in that specific order, wed be crushing it. But that wasnt always the case. Especially as we got started with the  new process because  we had to take a little time to learn. rocks  a task-based workflow that helps the team keep each other accountable. #bloggingAnd that was OK because our editorial calendar had our back. Let me explain. Traditional workflow and project management tools operate in phases. When someone does step 1, then someone else can do step 2. We all know that doesnt  work 100% of the time. So rocks  a task-based workflow that helps the team keep each other accountable for hitting deadlines. Let me explain how this happens: emails you the day before you have a task due on the calendar and you can see a dashboard of the tasks youre responsible for completing today and into the future. So everyone knows what they need to do. When you get into the office  in the morning and you see that the person before you hasnt gotten through their work, you can chat with them about the game plan for the day to get back on track. You can communicate with everyone who has a task assigned to them in a  specific piece of content  right in with a comment.  That way, everyone can see the progress the team is making on the project. When  you can move on to complete your task- even if the task one step before  isnt quite done- you can still do that and check it off your to-do list. Thats a lot of power for team collaboration. And while being behind is a rarity, this sort of communication may be necessary at first when youre implementing a brand new process with your team. We use the dashboard in to track a daily to-do list and collaborate with improved team communication. No more endless emails! Here are a few lessons I learned along the way that you may find useful: Help your team moderate themselves more than you intervening into their process. The more  they define the process, the more theyll stick to it. Dont expect perfection because its unachievable. Demand excellence and make that the expectation. When you set an expectation, make it a standard and stick to it. The second your team sees your standards are flexible is the moment those are just  guidelines. What Do You Want In Your  Marketing Collaboration Software? I like to joke a lot that Im a content marketer who  uses content marketing to market a content marketing tool. While thats funny, its absolutely true.
